Friendship Topic Part II: Love

Well it happened! I spoke in Fusion last Wednesday on friendship and actually had a good time doing it. Late one night I was thinking about how Jonathan loved David as he loved himself, and how He honored and preffered his friend; And I was thinking for all of us it's our fleshly nature to put ourselves above others but I think the reason Jonathan was able to do this is because He was secure in who he was in God! He wasn't trying to get the glory and attention for himself, because he knew his security rested in God alone. Isn't that great? How neat- to prefer others above ourselves, and be gracious to them.
1 Corinthians 13:7-8 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. Love never fails.

I wish I could have been there. Sounds like you did great. Your insight into Jonathan's ability to prefer David above himself is a great one. Dallas Willard says it like this: "The only way we can treat others they way they should be treated is if we have confidence in God."
